Things to see and do in Sofia with kids
I will share both specific places for children and general tourist attractions that might also be interesting for children.
Muzeiko: A children’s science museum with interactive exhibitions about science. You should definitely go here, it’s really nice.
Borisova Gradina: Sofia’s oldest park. It has very nice playgrounds for children.
National Museum of Natural History: It is a 4-storey museum with different minerals extracted from underground on the ground floor and many creatures from around the world on the upper floors. There are stuffed butterflies, vultures, penguins, lions and etc.
Alexander Nevsky Cathedral: The Bulgarian Orthodox cathedral, the symbol of Sofia.
Vitosha Boulevard: Sofia’s most famous and lively street. There are shops, restaurants and cafes along the way.
Presidential Palace of Republic of Bulgaria Changing of the Guards: In front of the Presidential Palace of Republic of Bulgaria there is a changing of the guards ceremony every hour.
The Museum of Paleontology and Historical Geology: Located in Sofia University, the museum has more than 200000 micro and macro fossils.
City Garden: This is the oldest public garden in the city, and if you go here during Christmas there is a Christmas market.
Sofia Tech Park: You can consider this place as Sofia’s Technopolis. There is a museum for children called TechnoMagicLand.
Kokolandia Adventure Park: An adventure park for children in the forest. You can plan to go if you have a long time.
South Park: A large city park with walking/biking paths and playgrounds for children. It is not right in the center of the city, but if it is near your hotel, you can go there.
Places to visit around Sofia with Kids
Plovdiv: This city is 1 hour and 40 minutes drive from Sofia. If you go by train, it takes around 2.5 hours. I think it is a much warmer and more photogenic city than Sofia, so if you have time, definitely plan a day trip.
Kambanite Bells Park: When this park was established, it was thought to symbolize the children of the world living in beauty. It is a park about 20 minutes outside Sofia where bells from many parts of the world are exhibited. You can ring the bells and listen to the sounds they make, a fun activity for children.
