Vienna, one of the most popular capitals of Europe, has gained worldwide fame with its rich cultural heritage, magnificent palaces, and art. One of the most important questions for those who will travel to this magnificent city is undoubtedly “Where to stay in Vienna?” So I have prepared a comprehensive Vienna accommodation guide for you. I hope this guide will inspire and inform both first-time visitors and experienced travelers who want to explore the lesser-known parts of the city.
Vienna Accommodation Guide
In this Vienna accommodation guide, I’ll detail the various regions of Vienna, identify which neighborhoods best suit different types of travelers, and provide my hotel recommendations for each region. Each hotel has been carefully selected based on thorough review analysis to ensure you have the best possible stay.
Where to stay in Vienna?
Vienna is divided into 23 districts, each identified by a number and a name. However, for tourists, especially those visiting for the first or second time, familiarity with all these districts isn’t necessary. I will focus on the districts that are most suitable for tourists. The best districts to consider for your stay are districts 1 through 7, which are centrally located and provide easy access to the majority of Vienna’s key attractions.
Innere Stadt
This is the 1st district and the heart of Vienna, and the remaining 22 districts surround it. You are close to most tourist and historical spots, and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes to choose from. In short, it is the best place to stay in Vienna. Especially if you are coming here for the first time, this is the best place to stay. Vienna’s most luxurious hotels are also located in this neighborhood. In fact, it is a bit difficult to find budget-friendly hotels in this neighborhood, I guess that is the only negative thing about it.
Innere Stadt Hotel Recommendations
Luxury Hotels: Hotel Sacher Wien, Rosewood Vienna, The Leo Grand, The Amauris Vienna, Palais Coburg Hotel, The Ritz-Carlton Vienna
Mid-range Hotels: O11 Boutique Hotel Vienna, Ruby Lissi Hotel Vienna, Hotel Post Wien, K+K Palais Hotel, Austria Trend Hotel Europa Wien
You can find here a list of other suitable hotels in Innere Stadt.
Leopoldstadt
This is the 2nd district, which makes sense for those who want to stay not too far from the center but at an affordable price. It is located on the banks of the Danube and is separated from the city center by a canal, so we can say that it is actually an island. Most of this area is covered by the Prater, Vienna’s popular park. There is a big amusement park in this park. There is also another park called Augarten. It is a very suitable neighborhood for families with its calmness, not too far from the center and green areas suitable for children.
Leopoldstadt Hotel Recommendations
Mid/upper class Hotels: SO/ Vienna, Henriette Stadthotel Vienna, BASSENA Wien Messe Prater, Der Wilhelmshof, Zola Hotel, Motel One Wien-Prater
Affordable Hotels: Hotel IMLAUER Wien, Zoku Vienna, Courtyard by Marriott, The Social Hub Vienna
You can find here a list of other suitable hotels in Leopoldstadt.
Landstraße
This is the 3rd district, again not too far from the center, a neighborhood with more budget-friendly accommodation options. The 1st district is not adjacent to the center, but it is far from the center. Belvedere Palace and Hundertwasserhaus, one of the tourist attractions, are located within the borders of this district.
Landstraße Hotel Recommendations
Luxury Hotels: InterContinental Wien, Hotel Am Konzerthaus Vienna, Hilton Vienna Park, Hotel Daniel Vienna, Lindner Hotel Vienna
Mid-range Hotels: Hotel Spiess & Spiess, Eurostars Embassy, NH Wien Belvedere, Best Western Plus Amedia Wien

Wieden
This is zone 4, south of the center. Since the university of technology is located in this area, the student population is predominant. Of course, for this reason, various bars, coffee shops and different venues have opened. Vinatge is a bohemian neighborhood with boutiques and art galleries. Karlskirche, one of Vienna’s impressive cathedrals, and the square where it is located are within the borders of this neighborhood. The Naschmarkt, Vienna’s largest open-air market, is also located here. It is not far from the center. Those looking for low budget accommodation and those who want to be close to the nightlife can choose this neighborhood.
Wieden Hotel Recommendations
Mid-range Hotels: Hotel Kaiserhof Wien, MOOONS Vienna, Saint SHERMIN, Hotel Erzherzog Rainer, Hotel Johann Strauss
Affordable Hotels: Austria Trend Hotel, Wombat’s City Hostel

Mariahilf
This is the 6th district and it is a cool neighborhood, similar to its neighbor Wieden. Art galleries, vintage boutiques, cafes and bars are also here. I can also say that it is less crowded and more local. Mariahilfer Strasse, which can be called the Vienna branch of Istiklal Street, is located in this neighborhood. The giant aquarium Haus des Meeres, which is one of the places to visit with children, is also located in this neighborhood. There are accommodation options for every budget.

Neubau – MuseumsQuartier
Finally, we are in the 7th district, the art and culture district. MuseumsQuartier, the heart of contemporary art and a cultural complex with important museums, is located here. This is an ideal neighborhood for art and culture lovers. It is very lively thanks to the museums, hipster bars and cafes.
